The Chief Minister had complained that the current proposal would diminish the importance of the Palakkad division, during a telephone conversation he had with the Railway Minister on Wednesday night.
Mr. Achuthanandan also submitted that the formation of the Salem division, incorporating a large area under the Palakkad division, could eventually lead to the abolition of the Palakkad division.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Tuesday said that a DNA lab would be set up in the state as a step to provide full fledged facility to the police department for examining evidences.
